  • Three(3) recent colored (4×4 cm) passport photographs
  • Evidence of age (birth certificate or statutory declaration of age)
  • Letter of Introduction from Employer (for salaried workers only)
  • Letter of confirmation of Nigerian Citizenship from applicant’s Local Government Chairman.
  • Students and Trainee applicants shall obtain letters of introduction from the heads of their institutions accepting Immigration Responsibility (IR)
  • Any other document which might be required by any locality as evidence of Nigerian Citizenship.

Important Notice:

  • ECOWAS Travel Certificate is valid within ECOWAS sub-region and member countries.
  • Applicant must provide the following in support of the application:
  • 2 copies of applicant’s recent passport photograph
  • Local Government Area Letter of Identification from Local Government Area or State Liaison Office
  • Birth certificate/ Age declaration
  • Guarantor’s form sworn to before a commissioner of Oaths / Magistrate / High Court judge. Note: A guarantor must attach the following documents; photocopy of data page of
    international passport or Driving License or National Identity Card
  • Father’s letter of consent for minors under 16 years (In case of single parent, mother’s letter of consent is acceptable)
  • Marriage certificate where applicable
  • Evidence of e-Payment i.e. printed Payment Confirmation Page
  • Duly completed and signed Application Form
  • Applicable fee is 2,600 Naira.

How To Renew My ECOWAS Travel Certificate

Required Documents for Renewal of ECOWAS Travel Certificate

  • Applicant must present the original copy of the old ECOWAS Travel Certificate for renewal, in addition to:
  • Evidence of e-Payment i.e. Printed Payment Confirmation Page
  • Duly completed and signed Application Form.
  • Applicable fee is 1,300 Naira.
  • The validity period is 2 years.

How To Apply For New ECOWAS Travel Certificate

The first procedure is to contact the Nigerian Immigration service offices at the Service Headquarters, 36 State Commands, FCT office or Visit the nearest Immigration offices near your Area out of the 774 local governments of the Federation.

You must bring with you:

  • a duly completed ECOWAS Travel application form.
  • a recent photograph of yourself a colored photograph.
  • proof of your travel plans – eg, booking confirmations (or detailed written travel plans if you can’t book ahead)

Renew My ECOWAS Travel Certificate

2. The embassy or consulate staff will check that you’re eligible for an ECOWAS travel document. If you’re not, they will tell you why.

3. You may get the document on the day you apply if your circumstances are straightforward.

4. It can take longer if your circumstances are more complex.like 2 weeks depending on the complexity of the situation.This may force you to change to change your travel plans.

5. The ECOWAS travel document will only be valid for the journey that you specified when you applied and for a specific period of time.

6. This will be shown on the document.

7. Your existing Nigerian passport will be will not be needed in most cases.

8. To leave Nigeria on an ECOWAS Travel Document you will need to visit Nigeria Immigration Services Offices to complete the exit formalities.

9. Some Immigration offices outside of Lagos may assist, but in many cases, you will have to complete the formalities at the National HQ.

A travel Certificate may be replaced under the following conditions:

  • If the pages are exhausted while the certificate is still valid.
  • the certificate has lasted for the ten years total validity period.
  • If mutilated in any form or requires amendment.
  • If confirmed lost or stolen.
